Safety Assessment
Tuition will only normally be given in your own car after a lesson in the driving
school dual-control car to assess safety.
Tuition in your own car will only be given if in the opinion of the instructor,
you make no serious mistakes that might necessitate use of the dual controls, and
infrequent general driving errors.
Your Car
Must be a normal 3/4/5 door model, broadly similar to the driving school’s car.
You must produce a valid MOT certificate for your car and it must be in otherwise
roadworthy condition. In the event that a fault develops that could compromise safety,
the lesson will be aborted without compensation.
The front seats must have head restraints and working seat belts. You must provide
a secondary rear view mirror for the instructor to use. You will be responsible
for fuel and running costs, also the consequences of damage and accidents.
Your Insurance
The driving school insurance only covers you in the driving school dual control
car.
Therefore you need to ensure that you have proper insurance whilst being given a
driving lesson in your car. You should call your insurer and check that your policy
covers you for receiving tuition, and that your policy covers 3rd party liability
towards your instructor. You will be required to sign a declaration that confirms
this, in the same way that you sign a declaration when taking a driving test. Failure
to have insurance that meets the requirements of the road traffic acts is a criminal
offence.
Fees
Driving school fees cover a lot more than just fuel. These other costs are fixed
regardless of whether the car is in use or not.
want2PASS
can therefore only offer a small reduction equivalent to the fuel cost.
